The deadline is fast approaching for REBNY’s Annual Commercial Management Leadership Award nominations.
I encourage all owners, developers, brokers, and managers to consider submitting a nomination for these awards, which honor exceptional individuals in the field of commercial property management – those who are often the unsung heroes of our industry.
All nominations must be submitted by Friday, February 24, and submissions can be easily entered online. Winners will be honored on Thursday, June 1, from 8:30 to 10:00 a.m., at REBNY’s 14th Annual Commercial Management Leadership Breakfast at the Hilton New York Midtown.
Honors will include the Edward A. Riguardi Commercial Management Executive of the Year Award, the John M. Griffin Community Service Award, the On-Site Manager of the Year Award, the Portfolio Manager of the Year Award, the Small Buildings Engineer of the Year, the Large Buildings Engineer of the Year, the Security Professional of the Year, the Porter of the Year, the Rising Star of the Year, and the Best Engine Room Award.
But before you nominate someone, it is important to think about why I have noted that members of this field are unsung heroes among our community. What does that really mean?
To me, it means having the dedication to rush to a property in the middle of the night to ensure safety after learning of a dangerous car crash onsite.
That is exactly what Sharon Faulkner, emergency action plan director at Paramount Group’s 712 Fifth Avenue, did when she answered the call of duty. That commitment earned Faulkner the gratitude of NYPD Deputy Commissioner John J. Miller at our 12th annual awards event in 2015, along with the special commemorative coin of the NYPD’s Intelligence Department to complement her REBNY Security Professional of the Year Award.
It also means going above and beyond the call of duty during Hurricane Sandy to safeguard commercial tenants, help protect properties from damage, and keep key sites open at a time of great need.
That describes Brian Iannacone, formerly a chief engineer at Hines (now a chief engineer at JLL), and Michael Bosso of Brookfield Properties, two of our 10th annual award winners from 2013.
In addition, it means showing up to work every single today to keep the commercial sector of the industry running strong and smooth. That is the kind of selfless professionalism and leadership that drives New York City real estate and makes me proud to be a part of it.
I do not think you will have to look too far to find someone to nominate. This is a city where we understand that small sacrifices can have huge impact on our fellow New Yorkers.
That is why for me, the weeks before REBNY’s Commercial Management Leadership Breakfast are a reminder to stop and thank the engineers, the porters, the portfolio managers, and those who do these vital jobs.
For you, I hope it is a reminder to nominate a hardworking employee who should get their chance to walk onstage and receive a well-deserved round of applause from our industry.
