Korean fusion restaurant Wind Rose will be opening in the former Mas Farmhouse space at 39 Downing Street.
It will be the restaurant’s first location, occupying 1,600 s/f on the ground floor and 600 s/f of the basement. Sinvin Real Estate Senior Managing Director Steve Rappaport, who represented the landlord 300 Turtles LLC, said Wild Rose will pay $22,500 a month as part of their 10-year lease with a 5-year option to renew. Joe Robinson from Eastern Consolidated represented Wind Rose.
“We were looking for somebody who was going to operate a high-end luxurious restaurant,” Rappaport said. “In our opinion, we thought Wind Rose was the best one.”
Rappaport said the Greenwich Village space received a lot of attention from prospective restaurants, but the landlord chose Wind Rose because he appreciated the people and the idea.
“It is on one of the most charming streets in the West Village,” Rappaport said. “When we were approached by Wind Rose, we realized they would continue the tradition of fine dining at this lovely space.”
The space was formerly occupied by Mas Farmhouse, a farm-to-table fine dining restaurant, for 14 years. The restaurant underwent a major renovation that finished last year after a fire shuttered the space in July 2016. Mas ultimately decided to close its doors this past June.
