Jamestown lauded for launch of new tech lab program

Real estate investment giant Jamestown, LP, has been recognized for is support of a new technology program for young inner city adults.

Hudson Guild honored the company and its president, Michael Phillips, at the agency’s 6th Annual Gala in recognition of Jamestown’s efforts to develop Hudson Guild’s new Tech Up Lab and program.

Hudson Guild is a multi-service community agency that focuses on serving Chelsea and the West Side of Manhattan, with a focus on those in economic need.

Jamestown and Hudson Guild announced the launch of the Hudson Guild Tech Lab and Tech Up program in February.

Tech Up is designed to engage teens and young adults living in New York City Housing Authority’s (NYCHA) Fulton, Elliott, and Chelsea Public Housing Developments, and aims to fill the gap in technology and career training for at-risk youth residents.

Jamestown provided over $1 million for renovation of the new facility and operational costs for the first few years of programming.

Additionally, Google provided the required technology equipment and NYCHA is making the space available to Hudson Guild free of charge.

“This new program, in this fantastic new facility, will fill a void in the community, providing much-needed technology training to young people who don’t otherwise have access to this kind of opportunity,” said Executive Director at Hudson Guild, Ken Jockers.

“We are tremendously grateful to Jamestown and Michael Phillips, without whom Tech Up would not have been possible.”

“We are honored to help support the Tech Lab and its Tech Up program, which will benefit many young men and women,” said Michael Phillips.

“This is an important step in preparing all New Yorkers for the 1.4 million tech jobs we expect to see by 2020 and Jamestown’s collaboration with Hudson Guild, Google, NYCHA, and NYC’s Chief Technology Officer Minerva Tantoco points to the importance of public/private partnerships to effectuate good progress for New Yorkers.”
