Brokers now a mobile workforce

Brokers are spending more and more time on their smartphones and ipads.

According to the most recent Mobile Usage Report from Realtors Property Resource (RPR), a subsidiary of the National Association of Realtors, 85.28 percent place a priority on using a mobile device to accomplish day-to-day tasks during the work day – up 10 percent from 2017.

Over 90 percent of agents use their cell to communicate with clients and 70 percent jump on to research property and update their social media.

“Realtors are often expected to produce insights on the spot,” said Reggie Nicolay, RPR vice president of marketing. “With a smartphone or tablet, they can provide experiences that are convenient, quick and personalized — allowing them to meet and anticipate those asks.”

The report includes findings from a survey of more than 500 Realtors about the way they use smartphones and tablets in their work lives.

When asked to rate how often they perform specific tasks using a mobile device, Realtors cited client communication (93.6%), housing research (70.7%) and social media (70.65%) as their top three uses, compared to home showings (62%), contact management (60%), financial calculations (56%), photography (49%), and mileage/expense tracking (50%).

Videography and presentations ranked at the bottom in terms of tasks, coming in at 26% and 17% respectively.

One one third of respondents said they spend more than seven hours per work day on their mobile devices, compared to only 18 percent in 2017.

A large majority (66 percent) use tablets, many of whom prefer iPads over other brands. Of that group, more than 50 percent use their tablet “frequently” or “always.”
